Our Story
- The vision for the Biohealth Hub began in December 2022, when Maryland's then-State Senate Majority Whip and now Secretary of State, Susan C. Lee, led a forward-thinking initiative to position Maryland as a global leader in life sciences and biotechnologies. Recognizing the state’s potential, She convened a team of scientists, business leaders, and policy experts to craft a strategic plan aimed at transforming Maryland into an epicenter of biotechnology innovation and excellence. This collaboration resulted in the policy proposal titled “Moving Maryland Forward as the Epicenter of Life Sciences and Biotechnology Innovation and Excellence,” which laid the groundwork for the Biohealth Hub. The proposal set forth a comprehensive approach to building a thriving life sciences ecosystem in Maryland, focusing on fostering collaboration, supporting entrepreneurs, and creating high-quality jobs. The policy framework provided a blueprint for driving growth in the state’s biotech industry through increased investment in research, infrastructure development, and public-private partnerships.
- In 2024, this vision materialized with the establishment of the Biohealth Hub at the Greencourt Innovation Center. Co-founded by Stephany Yu and Bei Ma , the hub was created to accelerate the development of life sciences companies by offering access to essential resources such as funding, talent, and state-of-the-art laboratory space. The launch event on October 18, 2024, brought together key leaders and stakeholders from across Maryland’s biohealth community to celebrate the opening and reaffirm the state’s commitment to innovation.
